Stay Unique Will Turn an 18th-Century Málaga Palace Into the Zanjan Palace Boutique Hotel

Stay Unique will reopen a baroque 18th-century palace on Calle Álamos, in the historic center of Málaga, in October 2026 as the Zanjan Palace boutique hotel. Originally built by the Marqueses de Guirior, the building’s central interior courtyard remains its defining architectural feature, and the company is integrating it directly into the new hotel’s design, pairing the property’s heritage value with a contemporary hospitality concept.

The project adds to Stay Unique’s expansion as a hotel operator across Southern Europe, which includes its recent entry into Athens and a planned white-label hotel with French multinational Accor in Tenerife, set for mid-2027. With this opening, Málaga becomes one of the company’s core markets — Stay Unique already manages more than 2,000 beds and assets worth over €200 million across Barcelona, Málaga, Seville and Athens.

Stay Unique President Enrique Alcántara explained the strategic logic behind the project: “This new hotel brings together several elements that are strategic for us: Málaga is one of our core markets, it’s an asset with a highly distinctive identity and architectural value, and at the same time it strengthens our growth in the hotel segment.“

The company has not yet disclosed the number of rooms the finished hotel will have, nor the investment figure behind the building’s renovation. It has confirmed the reopening date, October 2026, and the project’s positioning: an urban boutique hotel that showcases the building’s historic architecture rather than standardizing it into a generic format.

The Zanjan Palace opening reflects a broader trend in the Spanish hospitality sector: growing interest among hotel operators in restoring historic architecture in city centers like Málaga’s and turning it into differentiated hotel product, rather than adding standardized new-build supply.
